Create exciting paintings by editing your photos and reference material.  Learn to apply strong design concepts and vibrant color combinations.  Techniques of paint application will be covered, but the emphasis will be on value patterns and expressive use of color.  You  will be encouraged to explore and   develop your individual creativity.

Each day will include lectures and thoroughly explained demonstrations, personal painting time and encouraging and positive critiques.  Demonstrations will be in watercolor, acrylic (handled as oil) and/or oil.

Level:  Painters are requested to have some experience and knowledge of their preferred medium.

  • Tombow water soluble brush-tip marker, black

  • 6” x 10” Arches Travel Book, available from Cheap Joe’s

  • Note: 6” x 10” Arches Travel Book and Tombow markers will be available for purchase from Claudette at class

  • #2 Graphite pencil(s)

  • Kneaded eraser

REFERENCE MATERIAL ― All media

You will be working from your own photographs, so please bring plenty of reference for landscapes (water scenes/streams, trees, buildings) and close-ups of flowers.  Some reference material will be available from Claudette...

SUPPLIES ― All media

Please bring the supplies you have.  It is not necessary for  you to have all the following specific items.  It is simply a guide to indicate supplies and a palette of colors that reflect my personal preference.

Painting most of her life, Claudette Barker expresses her joy of nature through the use of color and light.  Each painting medium offers its own set of challenges and Claudette pursues watercolor, acrylic and oil with equal excitement.

Claudette has studied with numerous nationally known artists and enjoys sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm for painting with her students.  She has taught painting workshops throughout the country from Florida, across the Midwest and Southwest to California, currently teaching courses at Gila Community College in Payson, Arizona.

Her paintings are exhibited in private and corporate collections throughout the United States, Europe, Mexico and Canada.  Her work is included in the book “Places in Watercolor” by Betty Lou Schlemm.  Permanent corporate collections include AT&T, General Motors, Sprint and General Mills.

Gallery affiliations include El Prado Gallery in Sedona, Arizona, The Vickers Collection in Sun Valley, Idaho and Vail, Colorado and Ago Gallery in Ouray, Colorado.
