Instructor

Mary Schulte was born in Southern California and grew up in Arizona.  She attended Northern Arizona University, Arizona State University and UCLA.  For many years she worked for an airline, traveled throughout Europe, Asia and the Mid East, continuing her art studies in various media.  For the past 7 years she has concentrated on mosaic and sculpture. While living in California she taught classes in both mosaic and sculpture.

Her work has been shown in galleries and juried competitions both in California and nationwide.  She has won award consecutively at the San Diego Fair, Del Mar Art Center, Escondido Municipal Gallery, and the Art and Cultural Center of Fallbrook.

Mary moved to Prescott in December of 2005 and has finished the mosaic part of the Art for All, downtown mural on Granite Street.

I have been working on mosaics and sculpture for many years.  Turning "one man's trash into another man's treasure," I find a way to recycle castoff items including old dishes tile and bottle caps.  I choose items for pattern, color, texture and design.  I feel art should be thought provoking and pleasing to the eye.  I find that often, my piece evolve in entirely different directions than the original conception.  Once I get started they often take on a life of their own.
