Description

Beginning to all levels. Discovering the role of drawing in art. Turning shapes into human forms.

Nikki took Bob's class and this is what she has to say:

Bob Duncan's teaching style combines his expert skills as an artist, with individualized instruction, constructive critiquing of your progress, along with providing a friendly atmosphere. One could easily be intimated being instructed by such a great artist, and being surrounded by other accomplished students, but Bob has the ability to structure the class in a way that provides even the novice (me) student to feel safe and competent.

Bob puts the emphasis of using basic shapes to create any medium of art. He stresses the importance of breaking down your creation into the most basic shapes and angels before creating the masterpiece. He uses many examples and does live illustrations to teach this method. He even gives homework!! My favorite is drawing the sports figures in the newspaper. It is surprising how good you can become in a short time if you follow Bob's teachings. Bob is very laid back in his approach and uses a lot of humor which makes learning to draw very FUN.

Materials Smooth Newsprint Pad (not rough) 18" x 24". Note again: smooth.

At least three Charcoal Pencils either:

General 557 4B Soft and/or
General 602-S (soft) paper wrapped; best for learning to sharpen. The preferred is Ritmo B. I have found only online.

Drawing Board with clamps for top of board to hold Newsprint Pad

Two extra clamps for bottom of drawing board

Large Kneaded Eraser

Standard size three-ring-notebook cover. (8 1/2" x 11") paper for notebook OK but not necessary. You will be supplied with printed notes throughout the sessions.

Total costs of these supplies should be about $40. The most expensive of these will be the drawing board. Single-edged razors are available at first session for lesson on pencil sharpening. No exacto knives.

  Additional conveniences and helps:
  Ruler or straight edge
Compass for making circles

A pad of 19 x 24 tracing papers will cost more than $18. I will have that available but believe it should be a most useful part of any artist's inventory.

Walter Foster Perspective Book (small) Artist Library Series, William Powell.
