Intermediate to advanced. Inside out watercolor workshop.

Day 1 -- Accomplishing a Workable Plan and Demo
I spend the first day working inside, starting with a demo and how I work to a finished painting, then the participants paint from their own references and I work with them individually.

Day 2 -- Paint Outdoors and Demo
On day two, we will work outside, (subject to weather and class preferencel) doing some painting from actual landscape subjects. Using these as springboard ideas along with photos for the next day.

Day 3 -- Paint Indoors and Wrap up
Day three is inside. Painting is based on plein air sketch and/or plan from reference materials and photographs.  The last day includes final critique: each class participant will show at least one work. Also, class questions and discussion.

Raleigh is a teacher of national stature in watercolor having taught workshops in states of the Midwest, Northwest and Southwest. His public demonstrations for private and regional groups have been in some 15 states. He taught for 15 years in the public schools of Minnesota after obtaining a Masters Degree from St. Cloud St. College. Raleigh is a founding member of and first vice president of the Midwest Watercolor Society. He holds a signature membership in that society today. He is also a member of the Plein Air Painters of America (PAPA).

Raleigh prefers to sketch on location, designing, rearranging and simplifying painting process. He'll then follow his sketch for reference as he paints referring to the actual scene before him to achieve the principal colors and detail. In presentation of his original watercolors, Raleigh uses the traditional images and mat under protective cover. These are glass or Plexiglas, as well as a technique by which watercolors can be protected and presented as one would see an oil or acrylic painting.
