Description

This Saturday workshop has two purposes:

  • to protect the art and

  • to present it in an aesthetically pleasing way.

This workshop will cover the how-tos of mounting, matting, and framing art.  The emphasis will be on archival materials, preservation technique, and design from an artist's perspective.  Each medium - drawings, watercolors, pastels, phonographs, work on canvas - has special concerns.

As much as possible, this class will address the specific concerns of the students through a lecture and demonstrations, with hands-on opportunities.

Students should contact me at the frame shop in advance to discuss the type of art they want to frame so that I can tailor the workshop to their needs. The earlier they do this, the better.

This will be a hands-on workshop, so students need to dress appropriately. Wear comfortable work clothing that won't be ruined by a stray bit of glue or marker, no sweaters that will send fuzzies floating about, or dangly sleeves that might get caught in machinery. No open-toed show (because of glass). A workshop apron or old shirt to wear over street clothes would be great.

Each attendee will leave with a framed piece. Material fee may be extra depending on the size of the framed piece.

Materials

The simplify dealing with a range of cusotm size, the fame will be 12" x 16". There will be a selection of frames to choose from. Each student will need to bring an art piece that can fit that size frame.

For works requiring a mat and glass, etc., the student should allow for at lease a 2" mat, so the maximum image size would be 8 x 12 (smaller if fine). The materials cost, with glass, mat(s), backing and hardware, will be $55.

Material cost for art that does not require glass or mats, will be $40.
