In my workshop, I will teach students how to achieve accuracy and beauty in the human figure.

We will also learn how to add drama to our painting and drawing by working with elements of light and dart, both in the figure and in the background.

This workshop will not only inspire the students, but will also greatly influence other subject matter, so that the students can approach their art with greater confidence.

I look forward to meeting everyone.

See you there!!

Materials

Supply list:
  • For drawing: 18x24 newsprint, charcoal, soft cloth (or rag), sanding block, 18x24 drawing board.
  • 2 sheets of canson mitientes pastel paper in pearl grey
  • For those wishing to work in pastel only: small set of portrait pastels, a small set of Nu-pastels, you will need more pastel paper - four sheets of the canson in felt grey or pearl grey.
  • For those wishing to paint in oils, acrylic or water mixable oils:
    Cadmium Yellow Medium Burnt Umber
    Yellow Ochre Cobalt Blue
Cadmium Red Medium French Ultramarine Blue
    Alizarin Crimson Viridian Green
Terra Rosa* Large Tube of Titanium White
    Burnt Sienna

    * If you prefer water mixable oils, Holbein's Duo has a Terra Rosa
If you are working in traditional oils, please use the odorless turpentine.

  • Brushes - #4, #8 Bright, #2, #6 Filbert and #10 or #12 for backgrounds.  I prefer the Silver white or for a great price point, Cheap Joe's white synthetic, long handle.
  • Two stretched canvases, 16x20 or 18x24.  I will also have my gessoed panels available if you would like to try them.
  • Don't forget a palette.  I use a Masterson palette, with a piece of glass specially cut to fit inside.  I also recommend it if you are working in acrylics.  You may also have a favorite palette of your own.
