Description

Pamela teaches a purely experimental workshop.  Learn how to free yourself from the constraints of ridged realism, and create from the soul.  A fun filled workshop for those who don't mind being messy, and laughing a lot.  Learn about color, composition, and texture to make an abstract call out to the viewer.  "It's harder than you think", but made easy in this workshop. Appropriate for all skill levels.

Materials

Here is the list of supplies needed for the "Having Fun With Acrylics Workshop":

3 to 5 canvases, 16" X 16" or larger is best.
Assorted paintbrushes between 1" to 4"; I usually purchase the cheapest pack of brushes from True Value.
Old combs, feathers, drinking straws, (just pick up some from the fast food joint). Any interesting thing you may want to manipulate paint with.

A SPRAY WATER BOTTLE (very important)
Paper towels, bucket, squeeze bottles (if you color your hair use those) or buy the cheap mustard and ketchup squeeze bottles a Wal‐Mart.
Old pie plate or paint pan for pouring your paints into.

AS FOR PAINT: You will want to use mostly pourable paints. You can find very inexpensive or free reject colors at places like True Value, or Sherman Williams. As long as it is acrylic or latex it will work fine for the workshop, so indoor house paint works well, or sample paints, or sale paints at Michaels or Hobby Lobby. PLEASE DON'T SPEND A FORTUNE ON PAINT. We will all share.
If you want to work in Metallic, those paints can be purchased at the Art Store, Modern Masters and Lumierer are the best but expensive. This is what I use for my professional art.

Black Gesso will be used during the workshop and it can be purchased at either Michaels , Hobby Lobby or the Art Store.
Heavy Gel either Matte or Gloss for creating texture.

If you want to embellish your pieces, bring old tissue papers, or other interesting papers, buttons, ribbons, beads, ect: Needle and thread if you want to sew something on your canvas.

If you have trouble finding anything just let me know, I will share some of my supplies.

Artist Statement

" I never know what my art will become until the journey is over, and that may not happen until it reaches your soul.l"

I have learned to let imagination and intuition lead the way. I don't try to depict reality in the way we see things on a daily basis, I like to encourage a new mindset and new vision into the things we see every day. I use color, contrast and texture to convey feelings and make common things visible in a way we've never viewed them before.

Artist Bio

The inspiration behind Pamela Dunmire's art always begins with the idea from one single seed. There is no must, no absolute, and no equation with a defined answer. It is simply an interpretive record of the fragile, fleeting Human experience, and a gift of hope.

Working nearly 20 years as a social worker with strenuous restrictions and heart rendering cases in Child Protective Services, the gravitational pull to escape the confines of broken spirits consistently delivered Pamela into the world of fine art.

Pamela grew up in a family where art was important. Her father was a commercial artist with his own advertising agency. In addition, he also painted fine art renderings for enjoyment. Pamela spent many hours as a young girl sitting by her father's side watching him put paint to canvas. It was there that she learned about color, composition, perspective and technique.

Painting became her balance during her years as a social worker, saving her from complete burnout. It was the Yin to her Yang. She used art to take those feelings of sorrow and distress and turn them into something beautiful.

Much of Pamela's art reflects the soaring of the soul. "I have always been a person who feels that each and everyone has inner strength that can be tapped into during times of turmoil and crisis."

A truly contemporary artist, each one of her images explores how art and life reflect each other, and serves as a creation to celebrate and enhance one's life.
